Cynthia R. Steinhardt
Postdoctoral Fellow
Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute
Columbia University
Dr. Steinhardt is a postdoctoral fellow at the Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute at Columbia University working with Prof. Larry Abbott. She received her PhD in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University, working with Prof. Gene Fridman. Dr. Steinhardt’s research focuses on how galvanic/direct current and pulsatile stimulation affect single neurons and populations of neurons and therefore can be used to produce naturalistic population spiking patterns in groups of neurons. She approaches these problems with a combination of biophysical and population-level computational modeling, electrophysiology, and algorithm design using optimization and machine learning approaches.
Dr. Steinhardt is a 2022 Simons Society of Fellows Junior Fellow. She was also a recipient of a 2016 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
